Default Collector's Armor - What's the point?

I just don't understand why it is in the game right now.

- You can buy better armor at any of the cities right now.
- It encourages farming to get the armor. Chest armor in Ascalon area requires 5 Leathery Claws which drop from Hydras, but we all know how frequent of a drop that is.

I would suggest a change in the Collector's Armor. Make it +1 - 3 better than the armor in the cities. Or just drop it. I would bet it isn't even used that much in the game.

Other than for the looks, it just doesn't make sense to get it. And yes, right now I am trying to collect the Ascalon Collector's Armor just to see what it takes to get Collector's Armor.

Because it's free! That's why. Also i like getting collectors armour for my charecters just so I have some more clothes to go around in. Also there's an area in Ascalon past the Charr Flame corridor that has tons of hydras, so yes they are frequent.

Isn't used?? I see people wearing collectors armour all over the place...

if you got the right collectors item (e.g. Leathery Claws) it is free!

I don't farm, I have finished the game and I am still using 2-items of Collective Armor for my ELEM build and it has the same AL as the 1.5k and 15k Droknars armor and doesn't require any other materials that you have to collect anyway to craft the armor.

Doesn't look too nice but I dont care.

No you cant, not untill you get to droks which is after the desert. (as an example)

it seems to be quite popular with monks at least, mainly i think because of the looks. dont know about other classes.

its essentially free armour, thats one reason right there.
its almost (almost) as good as droks armour and again for free. (again desert armour as an example)

it encourages farming far less than 15k armour does. 3 hydra claws are far easier to get than 60k gold + ~350 of two types of material.

It's often cheaper to obtain Collectors' armor by trading with other players for the Collectors' items desired. Said items often sell for 100g each, and are often sold by more casual PvE players.

Plus, a lot of the Collectors' armor looks just plain better than the more expensive ones. Personally, I prefer the look of the Collectors' Female Elementalist Armor to any of the 15k Female Elementalist Armor or even the Fissure Armor, and since it's for a PvE character, I'm not as concerned about the +15 armor boost to a specific element like I would be for a competitive PvP character. I'll be spending more time gawking at my PvE character than I will be with my PvP character where I'm focused more on the intense action than the scenery.

The 15k Aeromancer and the Collectors armour look almost the same, well, for the female ele anyway.

Well, they're both transparent, but one looks like an elegant dress, while the other looks like a glamourous-sparkly-skirt thing.

I've acquired collector's armor for all my characters. Not that much trouble. Trade for or buy rare needed trade items, pretty easy in the desert. The Crystal Desert ranger armor was so good that all Droknar's could do was add five energy. Mostly, though, for me it is fun to get the collector's armor. What is fun for me might be tedium for others.

Some instances, the collectors item looks better than the 15k version. i.e. Female necro. (*/rant where's that tormentor armour *)

Looks *is* something major to alot of people - i mean if ur going to be staring at ur charac butt for so long, at least looking at something that looks good makes sense.

And in some cases they look almost the same. My friend cried when we stood side by side, me with pre-searing collector's monk armor (its the same style as later collectors) him with 15k...

I also did notice that superior vigor's have been sliding back on price. I think you're right having an abundance of items does help make them cheaper, the problem is that for the new people to the game, they don't get dropped as good of items, so they still don't have the gold to benefit.

The collectors armor is usually higher level than the stuff you can craft in any particular area. Why spend thousands on materials and crafting when you can spend hundreds instead on the way to Droknar's Forge? Also if you take the trouble to get decent armor, your monk in the ascension missions will thank you instead of cursing you...

Collector's + Necro + Female = Best looking armor in the game.

And for some folks, looks matter more than armor bonuses.

The Warrior Collector armor is actually very good armor. It is Armor 80 with a +20 against physical I think. I would have never switched to Drok's armor if it weren't for the energy bonus of Glads. In my opinion, the max collector armor is the same quality of protection as Drok's in all classes. There may be some added bonus that comes with Drok's, but in many cases the collector armor is as good or better depending on your style of play or your build.

its exactly for looks, the whole reason for the 15k armor, yea ther the same specs as droknars but we get it for the different look so that theres not every1 running around with the same crap on, It may or may not look as good as other armors but if it go for it. Its just there to give u something different to do. Giving ppl a nice selection is good, thats all ppl want

Here's what i did with my most recent char:
I bought the Ascalon City Post-Searing armor set and stuck with that untill the desert (yes, indeed) The desert collecter set is just as good as the Drokky armor and look better IMO(for male warrior, that is)

While that desert collecter set is usefull, the rest isn't, not for me at least, since i don't stay in one area for too long and so i never get all the items together.

That's what I have done with all my characters. The only one that still wears collector armor is my ranger, but that's mostly because I had a ton of money to blow on expensive armor for the other toons... and I like the look of the female ranger collector armor.

Other than the different armor graphics, the collectors are there mainly to add some incentive to explore the areas.

Face it : with 'instanced' zones, areas are totally empty of ANY sort of interaction whatsoever EXCEPT for the occasional collector, and the NPC's for quests.

My main dislike of collectors armor is that it is different armor level than what's available in the area.

Collecting armor anywhere but the desert is pointless, except for newbies who are broke and need better armor as they go. But still, even at that point it is better to sell off the collector items and get money to go toward buying better armor, even from the cheapo guy in Ascalon.

Collector Armor should atleast be the same level as the nearest city until the desert.

Ah, but that's where you are incorrect. The collector's armor in the Maguuma Jungle is better than the one available at the crafter UNTIL YOU GET TO HENGE OF DENRAVI.

For many professions, the Maguuma Collector armor is only 1-notch below Droknar -- i.e. until you either do the collector in the desert or pass ascension, you will not find better armor. This is why the Maguuma armor is actually fairly good and I see people who want to buy the components for them all the time.

The maguuma armor will also last you a fair lenght of time -- if you think about it -- through both the maguuma jungle and big chunks of the desert.
